What Are LUTs?
For starters, LUTs are Look Up Tables. Look up tables are used in video editing and photography to change colors in videos and images via a mathematical formula or a color filter. Within the look up tables, there are lists of colors which account for every color within a specific image or frame. The LUT acts as an image filter by color grading the image or video to create more consistent color tones throughout.
How to Use LUTs
All of our Free LUTs are 3D .CUBE files, meaning they work in a variety of NLEs and color grading programs. Once installed, you can apply these color grades with a single click in Premiere Pro CC, FCPX, After Effects CC, DaVinci Resolve, and more!
The main thing to note is that these LUTs were designed for Log footage. That means they were designed to be applied to footage with a significantly flat look. So, if you’re shooting on a more standard color curve, these LUTs could be too intense when applied to your footage. Just keep that in mind!
